living legends or loaded lawbreakers?
The American people saw Bonnie and Clyde as Robin Hood figures who were fighting back against a capitalist system they believed had been broken by corruption and greed of big businesses and government officials. They followed the Barrow gang's exploits through newspapers, and were fascinated by these gangsters in love during a time when lawbreakers were predominantly male. Towards the end, public opinion of the pair began to sour, especially with cries for justice from the families of their victims. However, their story continues to captivate today, and they remain immortal through their photographs as well as the Academy Award-winning movie depicting their life.
